One of our busiest seasons has just begun. Event season! It kicked off a couple of weeks ago with our Right Where You Are Now launch party hosted by Powell’s Books, then almost the entire crew from Craigmore Creations headed up to Kirkland, WA to participate in the NW BookFest 2011! Although we were a bit wet we had a great time sharing our books with attendees.
Today, only a few days after returning to Portland, David Shapiro will make a surprise visit to St. Thomas More School for their annual book fair. Students will visit with him from 10am – 12pm. On Saturday the 8th at 2pm Shapiro will give a Terra Tempo presentation at the Columbia River Gorge Discovery Center. Meanwhile we are preparing for one of our biggest events of the season, the New York City Comic Convention or NYC³ as we like to call it.
If you have never been to a Comic Con, NYC³ is one of the best, craziest, and most amazing event experiences a comic book fan could ever have. With Saturday’s tickets completely sold out and attendance levels reaching nearly 100,000 people in 2010, we expect this to be one of our best events for the year. Terra Tempo creators, David Shapiro and Christopher Herndon, will both be working our small press table #3051. Christopher will most likely be offering custom commission work for fans who are looking for an on-the-spot original art. David Shapiro will be signing books and talking to kids and their families about Craigmore’s awesome books.
While NYC³ is in full swing Craigmore’s graphic novel, Terra Tempo: Ice Age Cataclysm! will be on display in the Combined Book Exhibit booth (#8.0S 961) at the Frankfurt Book Fair in Germany. Our hope is that we can attract foreign rights and distribution options.
Meanwhile back in the states Craigmore Creations staff will be attending the Fall Show hosted by the Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association (PNBA). Some exciting aspects of this event are the BuzzBooks contest, the show specials we will offer to book buyers and the promotion of our books in this years Holiday Guide, which is said to reach nearly 1,000,000 households across the country.
The BuzzBooks program is a bit like a popularity contest for our new book, Right Where You Are Now. PNBA displays BuzzBooks prominently on Education and Exhibit Day One at the show. Booksellers visit participating publishers on the Exhibit floor and vote for the book they think most buzzworthy, and we announce the winners all over the place. while the BuzzBooks program was a great way to get involved in this years event it is the show specials and the Holiday Guide that could really help our titles break-out into the mainstream book world.
On Oct. 20th, the week following our biggest events, David Shapiro will make an appearance for the students of St. Andrews Nativity School. Shapiro will present a behind the scenes look at Terra Tempo and the formation of the Columbia River Gorge. His goal at this event will be to help the Friends of the Columbia Gorge introduce the students at St Andrew’s to the land formations one can see throughout the Pacific Northwest and the Columbia River Gorge. David will also join them on their outdoor school journey the following day. Thanks to the Friends of the Gorge and the Vic Clausen Youth Program for bringing Craigmore Creations and St Andrew’s Nativity School together for this unique opportunity.
All this in just two weeks time, and that’s not all there is for October. The final week, October 28th & 29th Craigmore Creations will join book sellers and lovers for the annual Idaho Book Extravaganza! IBE is one of the Northwest’s premier book shows. The event is for anyone who wants to become to part of the book industry, the eBook revolution or is involved in any stage of the book process. Guess that’s why we’re going. Stop by booth #7 just outside the theater to say hello.
